Dear friends,
We’re excited to share what God is doing here in Serbia. This letter is long, but I hope you will be blessed as you read.
The summer camp season has begun at the Child Evangelism Fellowship campground in central Serbia. The Children’s Camp finished on Saturday, and the Teen Camp started Sunday. Our colleagues there have posted pictures on-line, and it looks like the camps are going very well. Thank you for your prayers for the campers, teachers, and volunteers. Please keep praying for them this week as well. Pray they will be open to God changing their hearts and lives, for His glory, accepting Jesus as their Savior, and/or growing in their daily walk with Him.
Ethan, Toby, and I will be there next week. This is the first half of a two-week summer missionary training course for older teens and youth. It is for training, and Ethan will lead a daily chapel time on the topic of personal holiness. Most of their training will be about ministering to children—teaching a Bible lesson, teaching memory verses, teaching preschoolers, appropriately explaining the gospel to a child, etc. During the second week, they will divide into teams and go to neighboring towns where they will hold Five-Day Clubs for children. This is a really exciting opportunity for them, because they will be able to immediately use what they have learned. Pray for the summer missionaries, their teachers, and leaders. Pray all will grow in Christ, and that the Five-Day Clubs will reach many kids in the neighboring towns.
The youth camp for the third week of July has been cancelled. The two campers who had signed up are instead attending this week’s Teen Camp. On July 26th, another Children’s Camp starts. Pray for the campers and teachers for this camp. Pray more children sign up for this camp, as well as the camps in August.
—Church in Niš—
Praise God for His faithfulness to encourage His people and to speak through His Word. The Women’s Tuesday Night Bible Study just finished Joshua, and will start James next week. In October 2013 our first Bible study had an average of five or six women attending; now we average 11! Pray God speaks to us through His Word, and if any are not saved, He will make the gospel clear to them, and they will believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
We’ve also seen a big increase in Sunday service attendance over the past three or four months. Pray we grow as a church—the body of Christ with Jesus as our head. Pray we each have a desire to love and live as Jesus did, and to seek His wisdom as we speak to those around us. Ethan has been preaching through the book of John. We just finished chapter four about the Samaritan woman at the well. It is so wonderful to be reminded that our Lord loves everyone and takes the time to reach out to each person regardless of their sinful lifestyle, bad decisions, or false religion.
Here in southern Serbia there aren’t many churches, and some towns have none. One of our Niš church’s ministries is to encourage the Christians in southern towns who have no church of their own. Pray these Christians, who often are ministering to people around them, will be encouraged to keep up their faithful witness. Pray they will see fruit and be able to start their own church groups in the places where they live.
Thank you for your prayers. May God richly bless you as you live for Him.
